(JCSO photo) The Jackson County Sheriffs’s Office said a body recovered Sunday in the Rogue River is Jesus Flores-Galindo, 21, of Lamont, California, who went missing earlier this month after jumping in the water near Gold Hill. Sheriff’s department marine units and firefighters from the Rogue River Fire District responded to a 7 p.m. report of a body floating in the river downstream from the Rock Point Bridge. They recovered the body at 8:11 p.m. near Valley of the Rogue State Park, according to a news release. Sheriff’s officials are “confident” the body is Flores-Galindo because of a matching physical description and some items found with the body, department public information officer Mike Moran said. Next of kin have been notified. Flores-Galindo went missing shortly after 6 p.m. May 2, after he jumped into the river to cool off during a family outing. Witnesses said they saw Flores-Galindo splashing before he went under. “Witnesses on scene said they do not think the subject knew how to swim,” a sheriff’s department Facebook post said. “It is thought he may have stepped into a deep pool and the cool water temperature also affected him.” The initial search for Flores-Galindo lasted for several days, with search-and-rescue crews utilizing an underwater drone, dive teams and airplane flights above the river.
