When you don't have time to pack up for a trip to one of the area's outlying lakes, local spray parks and water slides can be a quick way to cool down. Area water parks are typically open Memorial Day through Labor Day, with hours from dawn to dusk. Medford threesome Medford offers three spray parks. Fichtner-Mainwaring Park, at 334 Holmes Ave. (along Stewart Avenue near Jefferson Elementary), features the first water-play park in the city's park system. It is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week through Labor Day weekend, depending on weather. Lone Pine Park, near Lone Pine Elementary School in east Medford, covers about four acres, with a water-spray area, restrooms and open space. Lewis Park, on the city's west side, has more than just a spray park. Located at Lewis Avenue and Eighth Street, the eight-acre facility has two basketball courts, two large playground structures, a walking path, restrooms, tables, barbecues and a gazebo. Tucked alongside a playground between Fourth and Fifth streets, Doc Griffin Park encompasses a small city block. The fountain park includes a double-horseshoe design with push-button access to random fountains. The park includes a play structure, picnic area and restrooms nearby. For information, call 541-899-1231. Don Jones Park, Central Point Don Jones Memorial Park, 223 W. Vilas Road, features a series of water toys, canons and push-button access next door to the city's largest playground, with tennis courts and a large lawn area. The turn-on day for the water park is Friday, May 23, and hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. For additional park information, see www.centralpointoregon.gov/parks.aspx Garfield Park For Ashland water buffs, Garfield Park offers a zero-depth water-play facility with water toys, canons and ground fountains. Located off East Main and Garfield streets, the water park will open on Friday, May 23. Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days per week, rain or shine. Find details at https://ashland.or.us/News.asp?NewsID=2313 Emigrant Lake water slide The slide area at Emigrant Lake features a pair of 280-foot, twin flume waterslides, with dressing rooms, showers, restrooms, picnic tables and a concession stand. Parking costs $4 per vehicle (season pass, $30) with slide fees ranging from $6 for 90 minutes on weekdays to $12 for a three-hour bracelet on weekends.
