Jacksonville celebrates Pioneer Days JACKSONVILLE - An auction, water games and a parade of fire engines will highlight Pioneer Days this weekend in Jacksonville. An outdoor auction begins at 7 tonight on Third Street, near the corner of C Street. Auction packages include a $200 gift certificate for a Rogue Regency Inn suite, a signed painting by Jacksonville artist Anne Brook, a one-night's stay and dinner for two at Seven Feathers Resort in Canyonville and many more items, said Wendy Edwards, fire prevention assistant. On Saturday, the Odd Fellows will host a breakfast at 7 a.m. at the Odd Fellows Lodge on North Oregon Street. A street fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring craft and food booths. Jacksonville merchants will have sidewalk sales. There will also be games for kids. The parade begins at 11 a.m. and features fire engines from Jacksonville, Medford and Applegate. Fire District 3 will bring its new 105-foot Pierce aerial ladder truck. At 1 p.m., the water games begin on C Street next to the fire station. Firefighters will maneuver obstacle courses and compete in tug-of-war like hose spraying contests to test strength and endurance. One of the oldest fire departments in Oregon, Jacksonville has 23 volunteer firefighters led by a full-time chief, Tracy Shaw. Pioneer Days is hosted by Jacksonville Engine Company No. 1, the fire department's fund-raising arm, and sponsored by Black Bird, U.S. Cellular and KRWQ, Edwards said. Last year's event raised about $4,000 and previous year's celebrations helped purchase an Oregon State Forestry truck used for fighting grass fires.
