Comedian Del Van Dyke will emulate that positive energy when he performs at 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at Ground Zero, 123 S. Front St., Medford. Van Dyke got his start in San Francisco during the early 1980s, when he was inspired by the stand-up comedians of the day. He discovered how much he could relate to strangers in the audience when he offered them joy and laughter. By the end of the decade, he was headlining at comedy clubs up and down the West Coast. Today Van Dyke lives in Sacramento with his family and performs at clubs, corporate shows and charity events. He also teaches his Class Act Comedy workshops in Sacramento. Comic Phat Joe will open the show at Ground Zero. Admission is $5 and includes a buffet dinner. Call 779-4827. Leif Skyving returns to perform at 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at Chadwick's Pub in the Rogue Regency Inn, 2300 Biddle Road, Medford. Advertisement Skyving calls himself "Sweden's funniest export." He was born in Stockholm and moved to the United States with his family when he was 11 years old. His parents ran a Scandinavian import business in Los Angeles. His first experience with stand-up comedy came when he performed at an open mic session at the famous Hollywood Comedy Store. "Boy, did I suck," Skyving says. Now he brings 13 years of experience to his act, and he works in rooms in Las Vegas and Atlantic City and for corporate clients. Skyving offers audiences his take on the world at large, including his thoughts on being a husband and the father of two children. He also plays one mean blues harmonica. Sherry Japhet will open the show for Skyving. Japhet was born at Laughlin Air Force Base in Texas to an American father and a Thai mother. Her father left the military and moved the family to Idaho. Her parents eventually divorced, and Japhet was raised by her father. Japhet's comedy is inspired by her childhood experiences. She performs at venues such as the Tacoma Underground Comedy Club, the Funny Bone Comedy Club in Boise and at university and corporate shows. Moto Mike will headline at 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at Chadwick's Pub. Moto is armed with rapid-fire ad lib and draws material from his Japanese heritage. Mike has appeared on Comedy Central's "Stand-Up" and "Short Attention Span Theater" and on Showtime's "Funniest Person." Owen Straw will open the show for Mike at Chadwick's Pub. Straw appears at clubs throughout the Northwest, including Giggles and the Comedy Underground. He also works as a sports announcer. Admission to the shows at Chadwick's Pub is $5. Call 282-2122.
