Ashland’s Brenna Heater has put a decisive check mark next two both categories thus far this season, and last week’s efforts were proof positive that the freshman will be one to watch for years to come. With her team seeking to avenge its only loss of the season, the 6-foot-3 post powered in 21 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to help lead fourth-ranked Ashland to a 45-36 victory over North Medford last Friday. She shot 8 of 12 from the field, blocked three shots and altered several others to help erase the memory of the Grizzlies’ 48-46 setback against the Black Tornado on Jan. 3. Heater also scored six of Ashland’s first 10 points to help her team get out to a 10-2 advantage to start the rematch. Against ninth-ranked Crater, another contender for the SOC crown, Heater notched 11 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots Tuesday in a 47-34 win. The victory allowed Ashland (19-1, 8-1 SOC) to set a school record for wins in a season and maintain a one-game lead over Roseburg and Grants Pass with five games remaining.
