I always see one person at the stoplight in the right lane waiting to go straight across the intersection with a line of cars behind waiting to turn right (north) on Highway 62. — John, Medford We called the Oregon Department of Transportation about your question, but they recommended we give the city of Medford Public Works Department a call since Owen Drive is a city street. Medford Public Works Department Director Cory Crebbin said the city focuses most often on building left-turn lanes. "Right-turn lanes are generally a low priority because right turns don't create much delay. It's usually left turns," Crebbin said. "We try to put money where it will do the most good." Although the turn from Owen Drive onto northbound Highway 62, also known as Crater Lake Highway, is a right turn, traffic tends to back up more than usual at that spot. Many drivers on Owen Drive are traveling straight through the intersection to reach Walmart and Costco on the other side of the highway. Crebbin said the city of Medford reviews intersections every two years to see if any are failing to meet level-of-service criteria, he said.
