Pirates edges depleted Knights, 48-45 PHOENIX Despite missing five players, including three starters, due to suspension, North Valley proved to be a stubborn opponent Friday against the Phoenix Pirates. Sutton Jacksons 20 points proved essential as the Pirates posted a 48-45 Skyline Conference girls basketball victory. "Byron (Robertson) coached a heck of a game with the players he had on the floor," Phoenix coach Kyle Walker said. "His team played exceptionally well." Jackson, a 5-foot-8 senior post, was locked up in a battle against North Valleys 6-2 freshman Elaina Renius, who scored 16 points. "Shes (Jackson) not real tall, but she jumps well and always has good position," said Walker. "She hustles all the time and makes some good things happen inside. "I was impressed with the freshman post Renius," added Walker. "She caught the ball, kept it high and was soft off the glass with her shot." Phoenix (4-4, 1-0 Skyline) received important contributions from senior point guard Chelsi Clark, who was 4 for 4 from the field and came up with five steals, and sophomore post Tiffany Ross, who had four steals to go with eight points. "Clark gives us some good leadership on the floor," said Walker. "Shes one of our better penetrators, runs the floor real well and makes good decisions with the ball."
