Hemphill finished sixth in the event with a time of 10 minutes, 21.75 seconds — a personal best by 19 seconds. She was nine seconds off the lead and one second from third. "She ran a great race," said Ashland assistant Bob Julian. "She joins a long list of great runners we’ve had in that event." North Medford, Crater and Klamath Union also had competitors at the event. Results weren’t available at press time. MORGAN SHINES — At Salt Lake City, David Morgan of Ashland placed sixth Friday in the prestigious Gerry Lindgren 2-mile race. Advertisement Morgan was clocked in 9 minutes, 27.8 seconds in a field of 21 runners from nine states. Crater’s Isaac Stoutenburgh placed 17th in 10:03.1. The winner, Chris Rombough of Wisconsin, ran 9:09.9. Rombough is a two-time state cross country champion and two-time state 3,000-meter champion. The event is run in honor of Gerry Lindgren, who set national records as a high school runner in Spokane, Wash., that still stand: the indoor 2-mile (8:40.0), indoor 3,000 meters (8:06.3) and the outdoor 3-mile (13:17.0). PREFONTAINE COAST CLASSIC — At Coos Bay, Michael Clark finished third in the 110-meter hurdles (16.46), fourth in the 200 with a personal-best time of 23.98 and ran a leg on Cascade Christian’s third-place 4x400 relay (3:41.17). Along with Clark, Jordan Ockunzzi, Nate Lee and David Henry were on the third-place relay team. Ockunzzi also finished fourth in the high jump (5-6) and Jordan Burchfiel was sixth in the discus (121-0). In the girls meet, Cascade’s Christina Muswieck finished sixth in the long jump with a personal-best 14-4½ . In the 800, Megan Beard finished sixth (2:49.99) and Lindsay Schlaefli was seventh (2:41.53) for Cascade Christian. The Challengers’ 4x400 relay team, with Rachel Vincent, Schlaefli, Karly Kelly and Megan Beard, finished fifth (4:42.66). Boys Tennis NORTH MEDFORD 8, SOUTH MEDFORD 0 — North Medford didn’t lose a set in the Southern Oregon Conference match, which was moved indoors to the Southern Oregon Tennis Club. The Black Tornado split its No. 1 doubles team of David Longmire and Michael Tribble for singles, and they each picked up victories in the top two spots. Longmire lost just one game in each set against Nate Atkinson in No. 1 singles, while Tribble defeated Sean Rotbart, 6-1, 6-3. South Medford fell to 0-4 in the SOC. SINGLES — David Longmire, NM, d.
