The Medford Elks were accompanied by their minstrel show. "As usual," said Jonas Wolf of this city, "the Ashland 944 treated us most royally. Prof. Ralph Vining was chairman of the entertainment committee. Elks who know may guess the rest of the story. One feature of the entertainment were athletic exercises and contests, including a boxing match of the really scientific class and a wrestling match equally interesting. The lunch, the music, the stories, the 'smoke,' and everything connected with the event were fine." J. C. Pints, a resident of Imperial valley for ten years, is looking about Jackson county for a home location. He says he found Imperial valley a good place to make money, but a hot place to live. He helped to plant some of the first fruit trees put out in that reclaimed desert. Miss Marian White, of Grants Pass, one of the teachers in the high school there, returned to her home last evening, after attending the teachers' convention here and visiting with old time friends and neighbors. Miss White formerly taught in schools of this city. The final meeting of the Oregon-Utah Sugar company people was held in Salt Lake last Monday, but no word has been received by any of those concerned as to what action was taken to select a location for the factory. Miss Bertha McCallister of Grants Pass, returned home last evening after a visit while attending the convention of teachers in this city with many friends. Hopwell G. Allen, of Seattle, is in this valley this week on business connected with modern farm machinery. He says this is his first visit to the Rogue river country, but it will be followed by another soon, of longer duration. Mrs. A. W. Bartlett of Grants Pass was a Medford visitor Wednesday.
