BOYS SOCCER Grant edges North Medford in opener Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Aug. 30, 2015 at 2:00 AM Posted Aug. 30, 2015 at 2:00 AM » Social News Takumi Hebert scored the go-ahead goal with about eight minutes left as the Grant boys soccer team edged North Medford, 3-2, in the nonleague season opener at Spiegelberg Stadium on Saturday. North Medford’s Manny Mejia tied the match at 2 late in the second half after collecting an Eric Benitez free kick and scoring from 13 yards out. Hebert capitalized on a penalty kick for Grant, last year’s Class 6A state runner-up. Luis Angel-Cerna booted in a goal from six yards away using a Caleb Dix throw-in 20 minutes into the match for the Black Tornado, which led 1-0 at halftime. The Generals also scored in the 50th and 60th minutes. Goalkeeper Benitez made 10 difficult saves. “We played well,” North Medford head coach Michael Belzberg said. “I think for us there are no excuses about letting down a bit in the second half. The good news is we get to go forward and work out some kinks.” MailTribune.com Writer Posted Aug. 30, 2015 at 2:00 AM » Comment or view comments Reader Reaction Schedules & Events --> Recent Scores --> Prep Notebook Kris Henry Varsity 541 Photos South vs. Willamette North vs. Canby Football Jamboree at Spiegelberg Stadium U.S. Amateur Qualifier Rogue vs. Gems North vs. Sheldon » More Photo Galleries Privacy Policy | Terms of Service | Local Media Group Publications | Contact Us | Advertise | © Copyright Local Media Group, Inc.
