Rhys Fong, 37, of Medford, was found at about 2 a.m. Monday in the orchards off Kirtland Road with three other men, police said. The men also had a dead three-point, black-tailed buck, killed by an arrow. Deputies and the Oregon State Police Fish & Wildlife Division determined Fong had killed the deer at 1 a.m. using spotlights, which is illegal. The men also did not have the proper tags, police said. The men had a key to the orchard and said they had permission to be there, the Jackson County Sheriff's Department wrote on its Facebook page. "(Fong) further claimed he had returned to find a deer his cousin had wounded earlier in the day," the post reads. Fong was cited for unlawful possession and take of the animal. According to records with the Oregon Marine Board, which licenses hunting and fishing guides, Fong was a licensed hunting guide in 2012-13 but did not renew for 2014. OSP said they don't believe this case is linked to a recent cluster of poaching cases reported near Eagle Point. During September along Lost Creek Lake Road, a Roosevelt elk was killed and the head was taken, and three blacktail bucks were killed, with one beheaded and the skullcaps with antlers taken from the others.   MailTribune.com Writer Posted Sep. 30, 2014 @ 5:23 pm » Comment or view comments   Reader Reaction »  STAY INFORMED   Email NewsLetter   Sign Up Today   Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox. calendar Connect with MailTribune.com Facebook Twitter RSS Back to top Reader Services Reader Services Home Subscriptions Subscriber controls Contact us Submissions Photos Events Letters to the editor Corrections Announcements Obituaries Story ideas Since you asked Alerts Email Alerts RSS Feeds Text Alerts Advertise Media Kit Home Products and services Ad rates Advertising contacts Mail Tribune Daily Tidings The Nickel Shop Our Valley Blogs Stay Informed   Email newsletter   Sign Up Today   Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox.
