Felicia Burton, 25, remains in the Jackson County Jail on charges of first-, second-, and third-degree assault and first-degree criminal mistreatment, according to jail records. She remains in the jail on $50,000 bail after entering the not-guilty pleas today in Jackson County Circuit Court. The charges stem from a Sept. 23 incident in the 100 block of Kenwood Avenue. Investigators said in a  probable cause affidavit that Burton's daughter defecated in her pants, which angered Burton. She then forced her daughter's arms and hands into the kitchen sink and turned on hot water full blast, which caused the burns. Investigators said Burton waited until the following day to take the girl to Valley Immediate Care for the "significant" burns and blisters she had from her elbows to her fingertips. The girl was later transported to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center, then Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland for treatment. Doctors treating her noticed bruises on the girl's lower back and right upper thigh, described in the affidavit as "specific to child abuse." Burton also allegedly changed her story regarding her child's injuries several times, the affidavit says. She initially said the injuries had happened the day she brought the girl in for treatment, then recanted and said they had actually happened the day before. Additionally, she said another of her children had poured hot water on the 3-year-old, causing the burns. Burton was arrested Nov. 7 and indicted on the assault and criminal mistreatment charges Nov. 14. Who is caring for her children is not known. Records show a pretrial conference has been set for 1:30 p.m. Dec. 1. Jackson County court records show Burton's only criminal history here is a 2010 car theft conviction.
