Educational event targets families of migrants Migrant workers who are looking to jump start their childrens educations are invited to an afternoon of fun Saturday presented by the Oregon Child Development Coalition. From 3:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, area migrant families can participate in educational games and activities and enjoy a barbecue lunch at the Fichtner-Mainwaring Park off Stewart Avenue near Jefferson Elementary School. Families also will be able to learn about two day-care programs offered by Head Start of Southern Oregon. Between August and September, Head Start will provide free health care, education and social services to children under 7 whose parents work in the local agricultural industry. Children in the program are placed with in-home Hispanic day-care providers at least four hours a day. To be eligible, one or both parents must be considered migrant workers.
