November 07. 2014 2:00AM David C. Saylor In loving memory of David C. Saylor, 76, who was called to his heavenly home Monday, October 27, 2014 surrounded by his family in his home in Talent, Ore. He was born July 21, 1938, the fourth of eight siblings in Harlan, Ky. David spent four years in the U.S. Navy. He went to college for three years, majoring in electrical engineering. He went to work for N.A.S.A. for 12 years after his discharge from the Navy as a quality control engineer. He had a landscaping and roofing business for a few years and then went to work for Southern Pacific and Union Pacific Railroad as a conductor for 23 years. He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad in Phoenix, Ariz. in 2000 and moved back to Oregon, built a home in Talent and bought a diesel pusher motorhome. For several years, David and his loving wife and partner of 28 years, Melba, traveled the nation in their R.V., spending the winters in Yuma, Ariz. David loved golfing, dancing, woodworking, and driving his motorhome. He loved Mitzi, his dog and best friend, and enjoyed partying with his many friends. He is survived by his wife, Melba; son, Steven (Jeanette) of Oceanside, Calif.; daughter, Pam, of Huntington Beach, Calif; stepchildren, Julee Lockett (Vince), Terry Dodson (Kathi), of S.C.; five sisters, Alice, Sue, Jean, Georganna, and Bev of Ky., Tenn. & Ind.; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George & Jessie Saylor and two brothers, Harold and Wallace. David, you will always be in our hearts. You touched our lives and we are grateful for our time with you, though it was short. Be at peace now. Our thanks to Asante hospitals, in home care, and hospice for all the wonderful care he received.
