North splits with Roseburg ROSEBURG - Keri Sevano stifled Roseburg to secure a doubleheader split for North Medford's softball team in Southern Oregon Conference play Saturday. Sevano pitched a four-hit shutout for the Black Tornado to gain a 2-0 decision in Game 2. Roseburg edged North in the opener, 2-0. "She (Sevano) got ahead of hitters and mixed up her pitches well," said North coach Sara Barry. "Keri is mentally tough and rises to the occasion. She's been doing a better job lately of keeping people off base." The sophomore hurler struck out five and walked three in improving to 6-1 on the season. North (11-4, 7-1 SOC) struggled to get its offense going against Roseburg (12-5, 6-2) until finally breaking through with two runs in the fourth inning of Game 2. Beth Morrill singled and stole second to spark the Tornado. Tai Kinney followed with an RBI single and Jill Carrigan plated Kinney with a double. "We were in it, it was just a matter of time," said Barry, adding that her team hit the ball hard but right at Roseburg players for most of the twin bill. Steph Coe and Sara Jones matched up for an outstanding pitching dual in the opener, with each allowing three hits. Still, Roseburg managed to push runs across in the first and fourth innings. Erin Goodell drove in a run with an RBI double in the first inning, while Shelly Hanson scored on a Tornado throwing error in the fourth. "It was just good games against two tough teams today," said Roseburg coach Craig Munion. "Both teams played well. "Coe just pitched her usual. She's a good pitcher. You don't lose too many games giving up three hits." Coe was 2-for-3 in Game 1 and was left stranded at third in the second and seventh innings.
