Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Advertisement Email Story to a Friend April 23, 2006 Binney notches 100th win in SOU sweep; Myers takes second Raider Roundup ASHLAND — Larry Binney notched his 100th victory as Southern Oregon University’s softball coach in doubleheader sweep of Cascade Conference rival Eastern Oregon University Saturday. The Raiders extended their winning streak to seven with 2-1 and 7-2 twin-bill victories over the Mountaineers. The third-year mentor reached the milestone with the Game 1 victory in his 134th contest as coach. Senior pitcher Julianne Cree (9-6) won her team-best ninth game of the year and tossed a four-hitter to lead Southern Oregon (22-13, 10-6 CC) in the opener. SOU went 3-for-15 with runners in scoring position and stranded a season-high 12, but run-scoring plays by Kim Kraxberger and Allesha Spradling in the first and second innings, respectively, eventually spoiled a solid outing by EOU (10-25, 5-11 CC) sophomore hurler Kelly West (5-15). In Game 2, the Raiders had four runs on five hits in the first two innings. Advertisement Freshman outfielder Deni Rowley and Megan Rock each extended hit streaks to seven games and combined for five hits, four runs and four RBIs to spearhead the attack. Rowley upped her league-leading season average to .455 with a 4-for-8 twin-bill performance. SOU freshman pitcher Cat Cousins (7-5) earned the win by allowing one run on five hits over four innings. SOU returns to action at 1 p.m. today with a nonconference doubleheader at Northwest Christian College in Eugene. Track and Field OREGON INVITATIONAL — At Eugene, Southern Oregon senior Scott Myers placed second in the shot put and fifth in the discus in the elite portion of the meet at Hayward Field. Myers’ shot mark was 55-feet, 2¼ inches and his discus throw was 163-5. Raider pole vaulter Robbie Johnston placed fourth with a height of 16-6¾ in the elite portion of the event. Ryan Musselman met an NAIA national qualifying height with a fourth place, 15-9 pole vault mark in the B portion of the meet. Junior Trevor Palmer finished ninth in the elite Bill McChesney Jr. Memorial mile run with a time of 4:10.11 In the morning session, Southern Oregon junior Emily Dunn set personal best times with a second in the 100 meters (12.46) and third in the 200 (25.75). The Raider women’s 4x100 relay team was fifth with a season-best time of 49.89 in the afternoon session.
