People actually want to get rid of their televisions! Woo hoo!!! Woo hoo!!!! Er ... just a sec. ... Ahem! Um, a small animal of the avian persuasion tells us that you most likely have purchased a replacement set. Dang. Nevermind. Charities are choosier these days because disposing of electronic waste comes with a hefty cost, Mike. For that reason, all donated televisions must be in working order and generally manufactured within the past decade or so. Advertisement The Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul and Arc of Jackson County thrift stores accept used TVs, but all have their own criteria. Salvation Army prefers remote-controlled TVs and requires them to be cable-ready. St. Vincent doesn't take any older than five years. Arc has a smaller delivery site and prefers that donors call 779-4520 to make arrangements. Living Opportunities, which serves the physically and developmentally disabled also might accept some televisions for clients' personal use. Call 772-1503. For a fee, Southern Oregon Goodwill forwards old TVs on to American Appliance Recyclers in White City. TVs are accepted exclusively at Goodwill's central donation site on Medford's Fir Street. Fees are based on the TV's size and assessed on a sliding scale. If this sounds like too much trouble, you could, of course, take that old TV to Rogue Disposal's transfer station, which charges no added fee for electronic waste.
