Semi truck rollover, spill briefly halts traffic on I-5 GRANTS PASS - A semi truck that rolled over and spilled diesel on Interstate 5 north of Grants Pass briefly halted northbound motorists Friday morning. A "First Strike" environmental team later mopped up diesel that leaked out of the truck's ruptured fuel tanks, said Jared Castle, an Oregon Department of Transportation spokesman. The truck driver, Baljinder Singh, of San Jose, Calif., told Oregon State Police trooper Holly Bridges that he lost control of the truck when he hit his brakes in response to a car that was driving out of control in the lane next to him. The truck struck the concrete freeway divider and overturned. Singh was not injured. Oregon State Police cited him for failing to drive within his lane. The 7 a.m. accident blocked both northbound lanes near the Sexton Summit at milepost 71, initially requiring cars to pass on the shoulder, said Castle. Traffic was stopped at 9:25 a.m. while crews spent approximately eight minutes pulling the truck upright. One freeway lane was open until 11:13 a.m. when traffic flow in the other resumed.
