Paul Inserra Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Apr. 10, 2015 at 8:01 AM Updated Apr 10, 2015 at 8:02 AM Posted Apr. 10, 2015 at 8:01 AM Updated Apr 10, 2015 at 8:02 AM » Social News Paul Inserra Paul Inserra passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at the age of 91. He was born in 1923 in Monongahela, Pa. to Sicilian immigrants. He visited San Francisco during WWII, fell in love and became the first in his large Italian family to ever live on the West Coast. He was the managing produce buyer for all Safeway Stores in the Bay Area for 35 years. His beloved wife, Jewell, eventually convinced him to leave his cherished Oakland Raiders and retire in Jacksonville. There he became a tireless contributor to the Lions, Rotary, and Jacksonville Presbyterian Church. Active in Jacksonville politics and the Boosters, he was a force behind the creation of Doc Griffin Park. When he and Jewell moved into the Rogue Valley Manor, they led the Tour Committee for 11 years of adventure, taking many trips to New York, San Francisco, and the San Juan Islands. He loved all things about sports, especially college football, and ultimately adopted the Oregon Ducks. Paul could make a joke out of anything; his humor, wit, and sarcasm will be missed! Paul is survived by his wife, Jewell Inserra; sons, Bob (Bonny) Inserra, Terry (Sherry) Inserra, and Carl (Jodi) Betz; daughter, Paula (Bill) Savage; and four grandchildren whom he adored. A celebration of the paesano life well-lived will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 24, 2015 at the Rogue Valley Manor, in the Manor auditorium. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Office of Pastoral Services, Rogue Valley Manor, 1200 Mira Mar Avenue, Medford, OR 97504.
