The unseeded Kauffman defeated No. 2 seed and defending tournament champion Bill Lawler, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the finals. He also took out fourth-seeded Chuck Sheffield, 6-4, 6-2 in a second-round match, and claimed a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win over Greg Boudreau in the semifinals. Golf Mike Jensen scored his first hole-in-one at Cedar Links Golf Course on Saturday. Jensen used a pitching wedge to ace the 130-yard 17th hole. Steve Robertson witnessed the shot. Derekk Vandehey carded a hole-in-one on his first swing of the day July 22 at Red Mountain Golf Course. Advertisement Vandehey, 15, used his gap wedge to ace the 100-yard shot, which was witnessed by Kyle and Chris Hockert. Softball The Phoenix-Talent all-star softball team was honored during the recent age 9-10 state tournament in Roseburg with the tourney’s sportsmanship award. Phoenix-Talent advanced to state after posting five wins to claim the District 6 championship, but did not advance out of pool play at state despite posting a 3-1 record in the nine-team field.
