HEALTH CARE Providence and Medford Medical Clinic look to join forces Comment By Greg Stiles Mail Tribune MailTribune.com By Greg Stiles Mail Tribune Posted Jun. 5, 2015 at 12:59 PM Updated Jun 5, 2015 at 10:20 PM By Greg Stiles Mail Tribune Posted Jun. 5, 2015 at 12:59 PM Updated Jun 5, 2015 at 10:20 PM » Social News Providence Health & Services and Medford Medical Clinic are in the process of bringing the clinic's 30 primary-care and specialty providers, 170 support staff and three facilities under Providence's umbrella by year's end. The organizations are performing due diligence on the road to a definitive agreement, with intent to finalize the affiliation by the end of 2015, officials said. “The landscape of health care is changing," Providence Medical Group/Oregon CEO Doug Koekkoek said in a statement announcing the discussions. “Rather than waiting until people are sick, our focus is moving toward keeping people healthy through disease management, prevention and wellness. In Medford Medical Clinic, we have met like-minded colleagues that want to be a part of this transformation." Medford Medical Clinic has three locations clustered in east Medford, including an urgent care location on Black Oak Drive next-door to Providence competitor Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center. The other two offices are on Hillcrest Park Drive and Murphy Road. Jon Van Valkenburg, a physician and spokesman for Medford Medical Clinic, said the clinic and Providence had a shared vision. “We believe the support and resources provided by Providence in this association will enable us to develop the primary care clinic of the future," Van Valkenburg said. Providence operates 14 clinics with 100 providers, a staff of more than 1,200, the 168-bed Providence Medford Medical Center, and home health services in Southern Oregon. “This affiliation allows our community to access physicians and practitioners who will work together to know, care for and ease the way for patients and families,” said Cindy Mayo, CEO for Providence Southern Oregon Service Area. Mayo said hospital and clinic roles will remain distinct without crossover and pay-scale differences will be worked out in the coming weeks. "This analysis will be part of our ongoing steps to lead us to a definitive agreement," Mayo said. Reach reporter Greg Stiles at 541-776-4463 or [email protected] .
