"There will be a rainy pattern for a while — at least through the weekend," said Chuck Glaser, data acquisition program manager for the National Weather Service office in Medford. Snow levels could drop to 3,500 feet by Tuesday night, and rain could fall off and on into the weekend, according to weather service projections. An expected high temperature of 72 today will give way to cooler weather in the mid-50s to mid-60s through the week. However, because of the cloud cover, no freezing weather is expected at night except in higher elevations. Temperatures have been hovering just above normal for the past few days, but no records were set. Glaser said we'd have to climb into the 90s to make it into the record books. Clouds should gather through the day today, with rain expected by late afternoon or evening. Glaser said the anticipated storm systems don't seem to carry any substantial punch and probably won't make up for the below-normal rainfall for the season. Since last September, the rain gauge near the Medford airport has registered 13.63 inches, or 1.62 below normal. However, since January, 9.19 inches have fallen, which is 2.15 inches above normal. "We were so dry earlier in the season," Glaser said. The water year started out good. Last September, we received 2.76 inches compared to the normal 0.57 inches. Then, October, November, December and January all posted lower-than-normal amounts. But February and March were wetter than normal. April has been a bit of a bust so far, posting only 0.36 inches, which is 0.53 inches below normal. "The series of rains this week might get us up closer to normal for April," Glaser said.
