There were many details omitted due to the ongoing investigative process. This involved the 40-year-old woman who was run over by her own car. Could you please explain now how the investigators feel this happened, how it was discovered and this unfortunate woman's identity? The answer you give may well help save someone else's life. The story has haunted many of us in Ashland who desire knowing the full story. — April R. We remember that incident, April. Almost two months later, police said they don't have a completely definitive answer, but they have a likely idea about what happened. Ashland police said the accident that killed 40-year-old Sarah McPherson on the afternoon of Monday, June 22, was probably due to the vehicle not being in park or some kind of transmission failure. Investigators think McPherson got out of her vehicle for an unknown reason and came to the front. The car then rolled over her and pinned her beneath it on her driveway on Maple Way, near Ashland Community Hospital. "It wasn't in park, or for some other reason the transmission wasn't locked up like an automatic transmission usually is," said Ashland police Chief Tighe O' Meara. "For whatever reason, the transmission wasn't locked." The front of the car was facing the street when it happened. Emergency responders pronounced McPherson dead at the scene. "It's a real tragedy," O' Meara said. "Of course, our thoughts are with the family." He added that he has heard of cases like this, but that this is the first time he's investigated one in his 24 years of being a police officer. "I've heard of it kind of anecdotally," O' Meara said.
