North tops Henley in 11 innings KLAMATH FALLS - Two of the top high school softball programs in the state met here Tuesday, and it was no surprise that extra innings were needed to decide the outcome. North Medford scored four runs on four hits in the top of the 11th inning to claim a 7-4 victory over Henley. The Black Tornado is ranked No. 4 in the Class 4A poll, while Henley is ranked No. 4 in the 3A poll. Jill Carrigan, Tai Kinney, Steph Coe and Amy Allen delivered RBI singles in the decisive 11th to propel the Tornado to victory. Carrigan and Kinney each went 3-for-6, with Carrigan providing a double, two RBIs and two runs. North Medford finished the game with 16 hits. Jessie Miranda went 2-for-5 with a double for the Hornets, who lost for only the third time in 22 games. With Jessica Birt on the mound, Henley led 2-1 heading into the seventh inning. The Tornado tied the game in the top of the inning when Carrigan led off with a triple and scored on Kinney's RBI groundout. Keri Sevano went the distance for North Medford, limiting Henley to seven hits. CRATER 2, SOUTH MEDFORD 0 - At Central Point, Jenni Bittle pitched four hitless innings, allowing two walks, and Kelsey Anhorn threw three scoreless innings of relief as Crater improved to 16-5 with a non-conference win. Kelle Thomas drove in both Crater runs with two-out singles in the first and third innings. L - Byrne Non-conference baseball SOUTH UMPQUA 3, EAGLE POINT 2 - At Eagle Point, South Umpqua tied it with a run in the top of the seventh inning, then pushed an unearned run across the plate in the eighth of the non-conference game at The Yard. Brandon Willer scored a run with a single in the first inning for the Eagles (9-14). In the fifth inning, Ryan Garrett doubled to left-center, sending Brian Sands home with his second run. But the tide turned in the seventh when Jason Stevenson doubled, advanced to third on Matt Miller's groundout and scored on Chris Brink's one-out single up the middle. In the eighth, Dave McElmurry reached on a base hit and then scored when Jared Steen's ground ball was thrown away. Garrett was 2-for-3 for the Eagles, while Willer and Sands were 2-for-4.
