LOCAL ROUNDUP Wright steps down as North net coach Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Mar. 31, 2016 at 5:57 PM Updated Mar 31, 2016 at 5:58 PM Posted Mar. 31, 2016 at 5:57 PM Updated Mar 31, 2016 at 5:58 PM » Social News North Medford volleyball coach Erika Wright has resigned after 15 years with the program. Wright, a former athlete for the Black Tornado, has been the head coach for seven years. Prior to that, she was an assistant to Ron Beick from 2001-08. Wright delivered the news to her players just before spring break. Under Wright, North Medford had conference finishes of second in 2011 and '12 and third in '13. Last fall, the team went 12-14 overall and 7-7 in the Southwest Conference, losing to West Linn in the first round of the state playoffs. In six of her seven years, the Black Tornado earned academic all-state honors, finishing No. 1 once. Wright played at North Medford as a sophomore and junior, then transferred to Phoenix High for her senior year, graduating in 1997. She's a graduate of Southern Oregon University. A search for Wright's replacement has begun. Golf WU EARNS HONOR: Northwestern sophomore Dylan Wu, from Medford, was named Big Ten golfer of the week after leading the Wildcats to an eighth-place finish at the Goodwin, hosted by Stanford, last weekend. The Wildcats shot a final round of 5-over 285 to card a 54-hole score of 14-over 854 (286-283-285), three strokes better than ninth-place and top-ranked USC in the 26-team field. Wu carded eight birdies over three rounds at the Stanford University Golf Course in Palo Alto, Calif., to post a 1-over 211 (70-74-67). He finished 13th in the individual standings. The sophomore carded a 3-under-par 67 on the final day of competition, his best career round at the Goodwin. The honor marks the second for Wu since arriving at Northwestern.
