Eight samples of between 10 and 50 insects tested positive for West Nile virus after they were collected Aug. 15, 19 and 20. One sample group was collected north of Central Point, three were collected northeast of Central Point, two were collected in north Medford, one was collected east of Eagle Point and one was collected south of White City. The latest round of positive tests comes on top of two previous positive tests, one northeast of Central Point in early August and one south of White City Aug. 12. Jackson County Vector Control District will increase monitoring and control measures in response to the increased public health threat, officials said. They also advised people to protect themselves from mosquito bites. The last known case of a person in Jackson County infected with West Nile virus was in 2005. Four suspected human cases of the disease have been reported in Malheur and Baker counties this summer.
