Local News Briefs Humane Soiciety holds open house Tuesday In recognition of National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, the Southern Oregon Humane Society is holding an open house from 2 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at 2910 Table Rock Road, Medford. The event will feature behind-the-scenes tours of the facility, updates on the society�s accomplishments, and a review of the society�s future plans, including preliminary drawings of the new facility. Scholarships available at SOU financial aid office Applications for the following scholarships are available at the Southern Oregon University Financial Aid Office, Churchill Hall, Ashland, and at the Medford campus. The Soroptimist International of Ashland Women�s Opportunity Awards are offered to female undergraduate heads of household who have primary responsibility for supporting the family. The awards are based on financial need. The deadline is Dec. 15, 2000. The Robert W. and Betty Root Scholarship is offered to a freshman Oregon resident who plans to attend full-time. Preference will be given Jackson and Josephine County students. Applicants must show financial need by filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, but must be ineligible for grant aid. Clean air station will be closed on Veterans Day The Rogue Valley Clean Air Station in Medford will be closed Saturday in observance of Veterans� Day. The station will re-open Monday, Nov. 13. The station, operated by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, is at 3030 Biddle Road, Medford. Regular station hours are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. JPR will broadcast election-night coverage Jefferson Public Radio will broadcast a special election-night program with returns and analysis 8 to 11 p.m. Tuesday. The election coverage will be heard on the JPR Classics and News Service. In the Ashland-Medford area it will be on both 88.3 and 90.1 FM. Jeff Golden and Lucy Edwards will anchor the coverage. Commentators Russell Sadler and former Congressman Les AuCoin will provide analysis. Other guests will be former Oregon Republican Congressman John Dellenback and Green Party member Sean Parlaman. The program will feature the latest Oregon and California returns and national updates from National Public Radio.
