Heavy rain Wednesday and early today loosened more material at the slide, about three-fourths of a mile past Galice. The road had been re-opened to one lane last week, but with the new movement, is once again closed. Grants Pass got 1.25 inches of rain in the 24 hours ending at 7 a.m. today. Josephine County Public Works Director Rob Brandes said an excavation crew from Robco Inc. will be back at the site today to clear more rock. Whether the road can reopen quickly remains to be seen. Concrete barriers set up last week held back the bulk of the new material, but not enough to keep the road open. Since the slide began on Jan. 17, more than 6,000 cubic yards of material has come down, hauled off by Robco.
