Carilyn Ann Gibson, 33, was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Medford after pleading guilty in October 2014 to concealing a person from arrest. "I think this sentence is sufficient to punish the defendant and deter her from future problems," said Judge Owen Panner. In November 2012, bank robber Bradley William Monical jumped from the three-story-high jail roof onto a nearby tree and escaped. He had stood on a fellow inmates' shoulders in the jail's recreation hall and pushed out a metal mesh covering to get to the roof. The metal mesh was later replaced with bars, and trees around the jail were cut down. Monical was on the loose for a year before being captured in November 2013 by U.S. marshals near Oregon City. Monical and Gibson spent two weeks together prior to his capture, according to court documents. Gibson's defense attorney said Gibson got a phone call from Monical after he had escaped from jail and made a bad choice to pick him up. Gibson faced up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine for harboring a fugitive, according to court records. Monical was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison for escaping from jail. He also is serving a 10-year prison sentence for robbery, plus a 22-year sentence for robbing a Coos Bay bank in 2011. More charges are pending against him in federal court in another case. He is scheduled to stand trial in March on three counts of armed bank robbery and two counts of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a violent crime.
