Flames consumed approximately 280 acres in the Wall Creek fire instead of the 1,000 acres that fire officials estimated Tuesday. The site’s rugged terrain eight miles north of Trail prevented officials from making an accurate estimate until Wednesday, said Dennis Turco, spokesman for the Oregon Department of Forestry. Fifteen to 20 homes a half-mile or less from the fire remained at risk, Turco said. However, firefighters were ready to protect the homes, Turco added. The following is a complete list of ongoing fires throughout the region: Jackson County Squire fire 2,300 acres, two miles southeast of Ruch. Residents of 200 homes in the Hukill Hollow area and 5000 to 10000 block of Sterling Creek Road advised to evacuate. Six loads fire retarding, Three helicopters, 480 firefighters, 14 engines, 11 bulldozers, seven water-hauling trucks. No estimated containment time. Douglas County Tiller Complex 1,500 acres, 50 miles southeast of Roseburg. 40 structures threatened. Sixty-three engines, 588 firefighters, five bulldozers, three water-hauling trucks.
