Former shelter supervisor will be sentenced June 28 Sentencing is set for June 28 for a former youth shelter supervisor convicted on 11 sex abuse and racketeering charges involving his teenage clients, according to court records. Wayne Randall Gatrel, 43, of Medford, could face up to 48 years in prison for fondling and having oral sex with girls at the Youth Diagnostic Shelter in Talent and for allowing boys and girls to engage in sexual acts while he watched. Jurors in a March trial also found Gatrel guilty of racketeering, or committing the acts as a pattern of preying on children. The minimum sentence Gatrel could face is five years and 10 months, according to sentencing guidelines. Gatrel will appear at 11 a.m. June 28 in Jackson County Circuit Court. He was found guilty of displaying a child in sexually explicit conduct, three counts of using a child in display of sexually explicit conduct, two counts of contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor, four counts of third-degree sexual abuse and a count of racketeering. Gatrel is one of two former supervisors convicted of sexually abusing young people in their care between October 2000 and March 2001 at the shelter that was operated by Community Works, a Medford social service agency. The other supervisor, Desiree Joy Seiver, 23, of Central Point, is serving a prison sentence of more than four years for having sex with six clients, some as young as 15.
