Sometime around Thanksgiving, the Medford airport broke its all-time passenger record. Surpassing the 60,000 passenger mark for the seventh straight month in November, the Jackson County-owned airport smashed the 2014 standard, leaving room for even more records. A November-record of 61,882 travelers passed through the gates, propelling the 2015 total to 693,606 — far exceeding 2014's record of 664,423. After taking a look at the trend lines, Airport Director Bern Case said he has one more goal for 2015. "I think three-quarters of a million passengers has a nice ring to it, and I think we're going to make it," Case said. Alaska Air unit Horizon Air accounted for more than half of the passengers, reporting an 11.3 percent jump in activity. Delta Connection bumped up 16.3 percent, United Express grew 15.6 percent and Allegiant Air reported a 6.8 percent increase. The airlines have taken note, Case said. Alaska plans to add another departure for Seattle next summer and Delta Express is adding a flight to its Salt Lake City hub for the second half of December and first week of January. "These numbers strengthen our position," Case said. "Little things dribbling along sometimes work into big ones. The load factors have been really good.  Part of it is a business decision. They don't want too many seats they would have to fill lower prices. They have to find a balance." Despite the recent storms, weather has been favorable as well, he said. The airport's Cable Attached System Providing Effective Release — CASPER — which is used to clear out fog above the runway, has been used only once this fall. "The weather patterns have been good," Case said.
