The Black Tornado (20-4, 19-2 SWC) entered with a one-game lead over Grants Pass (23-3, 18-3), which swept Sheldon on Saturday. North Medford has won six straight league titles. The Black Tornado crushed the ball against the Axemen (1-24, 1-20), recording 38 hits. Taelor Mayben led the charge, going 7-for-8 with six RBIs and seven runs scored on the day. In Game 1, Mayben was 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs, Teanna Gonsalves 3-for-4 and Tra Kucera 2-for-5 with two RBIs. In the second game, Mayben went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, five runs and two stolen bases, Kucera 4-for-4 with five RBIs and Janelle Rodgers 4-for-5 with five RBIs and two runs. Christina Kuykendall finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs, Gabby Rosales 2-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs, Olivia Lethlean 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs, Alex Barry 2-for-3 with three runs and Aidan Roderick 2-for-2 in Game 2. GRANTS PASS 10-11, SHELDON 0-0: At Grants Pass, Grants Pass wrapped up its spot in second place in the Southwest Conference with a pair of five-inning wins for a SWC sweep. In Game 1, Dalenna Bellum was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored and Alyssa Etheridge pounded a two-run home run in the third inning for the Cavers (23-3, 18-3 SWC). In the second game, Amy Robinson pitched a no-hitter with seven strikeouts, Halee Rose went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs and Halleigh Noga added two RBIs against Sheldon (4-20, 3-18). CRATER 6-8, NORTH EUGENE 1-3: At Central Point, Crater pitcher Brittany Hassel struck out nine and allowed two hits in the opener and the Comets used six second-inning runs to pull away in Game 2 to secure the Midwestern League sweep. Hassel had a no-hitter going until the seventh inning and walked only two for Crater (9-14, 8-8 MWL), which finished fourth in the league standings and will host Corvallis in a play-in game Friday. Sydney Beck drove home two runs in each game, while McKenzie Ryerson and Olivia Ryerson each had one RBI in both games for the Comets. Ashland (14-12, 8-10 MWL) scored the first run of Game 1 in the 10th under international tiebreaker rules when Jennifer O’Connor started on second and came around to score on a Marist error. The Spartans (20-5, 14-4) answered in the bottom of the 10th with two runs on RBI hits by Lauren Burke and Kristin Behrends. Tally recorded two strikeouts with one walk in Game 1. Sara Saurman and Meltzian were both 2-for-3 for the Pirates (11-13, 7-8 Sky), who scored their run on an error in the fifth inning. ROGUE RIVER 18-11, ILLINOIS VALLEY 0-1: At Rogue River, Marina Hall had two hits and two RBIs in both games of the doubleheader and Rogue River clinched the SCL title. Rogue River (14-8, 7-2 SCL) will host the league playoff championship game at 6 p.m. Friday at U.S. Cellular Park. In the opener, Elly Moulder added two hits and two RBIs and Sarah Smith belted a double and had two RBIs. The Chieftains used five hits and five walks to score nine runs in the fifth inning of the nightcap to end the game on the 10-run mercy rule. Laura Potter delivered a two-run double to highlight the fifth. Rogue River pitcher Alyssa Sands registered wins in both ends of the twin bill — allowing three hits and striking out six in each contest. Katie Munsell had a strong day, tossing a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts and four walks in the opener and going 3-for-4 with an inside-the-park home run in Game 2. In Game 2, Chrystyna Smith hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the top of the seventh inning for Prospect/Butte Falls (14-5, 9-3 Dist. 4). Shawna Creech pounded a two-run homer and finished 3-for-4 and Marissa Raines and Raleigh Weaver were both 2-for-3 in Game 1. Raines was 2-for-3 with Game 2 against the Irish (13-8, 7-5).
