Gunman holds up bank, eludes police manhunt A gunman eluded capture Thursday afternoon after robbing a bank at a busy southeast Medford intersection. The robber walked into the Bank of Southern Oregon at 2600 E. Barnett Road at 2:42 p.m. Thursday, showed the butt of a gun and demanded money from a teller, police said. He was last seen on foot on the north side of the bank. It wasn't known where he was headed, or if he had a car. No one was injured in the robbery. Police wouldn't say how much money was stolen. A dozen police officers spread out and canvassed the area. Security at the nearby Rogue Valley Medical Center was contacted in case the robber had entered the hospital to hide. Police arrested a man across the street from the bank, attracting attention from motorists and news photographers. But the man wasn't the robber. He was arrested on unrelated warrants. A bank manager referred questions to Rich Hieb, the bank's chief operating officer and security officer, who didn't return a phone call. The robber is described as a white male adult, 25-30 years old, 5-8 to 5-9. He had a slender build, a thin face, was clean shaven, had short dark hair and was described as looking "dirty." He was wearing a blue Nike baseball cap, wraparound sunglasses, and a long-sleeved blue zip-up sweatshirt. Medford police and the F.B.I. are investigating the case.
