Born in St. Gallen, Switzerland, in 1919, John emigrated to New Jersey with his dear family at the age of two. Although he left the Swiss mountains behind, he never lost his love of nature and stayed connected to his Swiss relatives. He began working for Owens Illinois Glass Company at the age of 17 and faithfully worked for them for 42 years, retiring as a vice president. John met his lifelong love, Grace Agnes (Kilventon), at the age of 19 and they married January 1, 1943 while he was in the Army Air Corps. They settled in Hackensack, New Jersey (later Rochester, New York and Toledo, Ohio) and had one daughter. John was very devoted to family his entire life. He was an avid bird watcher and very active in the Audubon society wherever he lived. At age 59, with his first grandchild on the way, John and Grace bought a 15-acre farm on the Applegate River in Southern Oregon to be nearer to their daughter and son-in-law. John loved this farm and had many happy years there until they moved to Lake Oswego to be closer to family. He was on the board of the Medford Symphony and President of the Rogue Valley Audubon Society. But his greatest pleasure was spending time with his grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and friends. He was a particularly kind, fun, energetic, and insightful man who people of all ages enjoyed being around. He will be deeply missed by his daughter, Kathy Keller Jones and son-in-law, Barry Jones; his grandchildren, Karl and Kaye Jones and their spouses; his three great-grandchildren, Rye, Fisher, and Flint; his dear sister, Helen; and many nieces and nephews. The family is holding a private service.
