South girls top KU, 2-0 NOTE: This game account was inadvertently left out of Wednesday's paper. KLAMATH FALLS -- South Medford earned the Southern Oregon Conference's No. 1 seed to the Class 4A girls soccer state playoffs with a 2-0 win over Klamath Union Tuesday. Coupled with North Medford's 1-0 win over Grants Pass, the two Medford schools shared the league title. The Panthers earned the No. 1 seed based on an earlier win over North. South Medford, 10-4 overall, went 6-1 in the SOC. The Panthers begin the state playoffs Tuesday against the No. 3 Valley League team. Against Klamath, South's Tiffany Mason broke a scoreless tie at the 59th minute with a breakaway goal. Eleven minutes later, Erin Reno made it 2-0. Center-midfielder Marissa Gillingham also played well for the Panthers. "She (Gillingham) completely controlled the game," said South coach Leslie Lang. "She is such an artist on the field and such a joy to watch play." Defensively, the Panthers were in control from the outset. "Our defense did a great job," said Lang.
