AHS takes center stage at state acting competition By Mail Tribune staff Updated: Mar 21, 2022 11:12 AM A A Ashland High School Theatre won the showcase spot for the Oregon State Thespian Festival with the department’s fall show, according to theater instructor Betsy Bishop. AHS was the only school selected to present its November musical, “Bright Star,” written by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, to 1,500 thespians April 2 at the historic Elsinore Theatre in downtown Salem, Bishop said in a news release. A local performance of the musical at the AHS Mountain Avenue theater is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, March 28. Tickets are $10. The show will serve “as a warmup for state, before they pack the truck and go up on the bus to Salem,” Bishop said. Competing qualifiers at the acting competition include Brooklyn Williams and Lionel Ward in duo comic experienced acting, and Parker Greaves and Brooklyn Williams in solo musical.
