Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend January 8, 2006 It isn’t over yet ... rain is coming back A wet and blustery Saturday set the stage for a new series of storms that may hit the Rogue Valley early this week. After a brief respite predicted today, the valley can expect slightly colder temperatures and more rain, though the threat of more flooding is minimal, said meteorologist Ken Sargeant. "(Monday’s and Tuesday’s) storms will move through the area pretty quickly," Sargeant said. "The rivers have come down quite a bit and it’ll take a little more rain than we’ll get to bring them back up again." Snow could fall to pass levels or below, Sargeant said. Saturday’s 36 mph winds knocked down trees and damaged power lines throughout the valley. About 30 Jackson County residents lost power briefly as fallen branches beat up power lines, said Pacific Power spokesperson Jan Mitchell. The highest wind gust was recorded at Evans Valley, just north of Rogue River, where winds reached 45 mph, Sargeant said. Advertisement Highway 140 near Lake of the Woods and the east Diamond Lake summit were hit hardest by snow Saturday, prompting the Oregon Department of Transportation to issue a chain requirement for anyone traveling on those roads, Sargeant said. Temperatures next week could hover around the low to mid-40s during the day, dropping to the low 30s at night, according to the National Weather Service. Rain is expected through at least next weekend. Mount Ashland could see between three and five inches of snow on Wednesday, forecasters said.
