The senior foursome Bryce Roy, Thomas Ward, Eddie Stewart and Ethan Shepherd broke Phoenix’s 13-year-old record in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1 minute, 50.85 seconds. The previous mark of 1:51.35 was set in 2003 by Jeff Stone, KC Cloyd, Jacob Nelson and Gordon Barker. Unfortunately for the Pirates, that record effort was only good enough to place second. North Bend’s foursome of Mitchell Yost, Jerrad Perez-Duncan, Danny Woodruff and Karl Stuntzner-Gibson won the 200 medley relay in 1:47.11. The lone event winner for the Phoenix boys, who finished third to North Bend and Lebanon, was Alec Shepherd. The freshman won the 500 freestyle in 5:28.40. Overall, North Bend’s boys team won six events and scored 107 points to edge Lebanon (104.5) and Phoenix (93.5). On the girls side, Phoenix senior Lauren Speaks picked up her team’s only victory by touching the wall first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.25. North Bend’s girls team won nine of the 11 events to win easily at 187 points, followed by Lebanon (67) and Phoenix (48). Boys Basketball RV ADVENTIST 56, GILCHRIST 50: Trevor Haugen poured in 27 points to go with 11 rebounds and Jared Cumbee had a solid all-around game with 12 points, 11 rebounds and four assists to lead host Rogue Valley Adventist to the Mountain Valley League win. Nathaniel James added 10 points for the Red Tail Hawks (10-10, 6-5 MVL), who rallied from a 13-4 first-quarter deficit with a 34-24 edge over Gilchrist (10-8, 5-5) in the second half. CHILOQUIN 56, PROSPECT 38: At Prospect, Sean Derr came through with 10 points and 10 rebounds but Prospect’s fourth-quarter rally fell short in Mountain Valley League play. Devin Shiele added eight points and six rebounds for the Cougars (8-12, 6-5 MVL), who were put in a hole by a 16-6 run by Chiloquin (13-4, 9-1) in the third quarter but pulled within eight points with three minutes to play. Girls Basketball RV ADVENTIST 53, GILCHRIST 19: Savanah Zamora totaled 21 points, eight steals and seven assists to lead Rogue Valley Adventist to the runaway Mountain Valley League home victory. Ashton Petray added 16 points, nine steals and seven rebounds for the Red Tail Hawks (16-3, 10-1 MVL), who opened a 33-11 lead after one quarter against Gilchrist (5-13, 3-7). CHILOQUIN 35, PROSPECT 27: At Prospect, Baley VanWormer had 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead Prospect but the Cougars were outscored 13-6 in the fourth quarter of the Mountain Valley League contest. Savanna Breiholz added seven points for Prospect (7-13, 2-9 MVL), which led 11-10 at halftime against Chiloquin (12-6, 9-1) but struggled with late turnovers.
