According to a criminal complaint filed Thursday in U.S. District Court in Medford by a local FBI agent, the agency is pursuing charges against Ernest Luther Taylor for the sexual exploitation of children. Taylor, 38, was arrested in February 2014 on numerous drug charges after the Medford Area Drug and Gang Enforcement team served a search warrant at Taylor's home and a warehouse in the 7500 block of Highbanks Road. Detectives discovered what they said was one of the largest psilocybin mushroom-growing operations ever found in Jackson County. According to the affidavit, a Medford police detective assigned to the Southern Oregon High-Tech Crimes Task Force later found child pornography on a cellphone seized during the raid, and a second search warrant served in August turned up personal property matching that found in the images. The Del Norte County, Calif., sheriff's department later arrested Taylor, who was in the company of the child victim at the time, the affidavit said. Additional images were seized from electronic devices in the car, the affidavit said. Taylor was charged in Jackson County Circuit Court with five counts each of first-degree sodomy, first-degree sexual abuse, second-degree encouraging child sex abuse and using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct. In January, prosecutors added additional charges of attempted use of a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct after police said they had discovered another potential victim. Local prosecutors Thursday filed a motion in Jackson County Circuit Court dismissing all of Taylor's state charges, on which he had been scheduled for trial this month.
