He was born in Bowling Green, Ohio on July 16, 1920. He was the son of Earl Lamb and Alice Darby. He was predeceased by his wife, Faye Mitchell Lamb, in Medford, Oregon in 2004, and by his son, Andrew Douglas Lamb, Sr., of Medford in 1976. His sister, Helen Love of Rogue River, Oregon passed in 2006. He is survived by his brother Glen Lamb, of Portland, by his son Stephen Lamb, of Lincoln City, Oregon, and by his daughter Martha Himes and son-in-law, Dale, also of Portland. Additionally, he is survived by six grand children and by seven great-grandchildren. Grandsons are Andrew Lamb, Jr. (Kelly) and Jason Lamb (Dawn), of Medford; Seth Himes (April) of Lacey, Washington, Brant Himes (Jackie) of LaVerne, California; and Gavin Lamb of Honolulu, Hawaii. His granddaughter is Amber Himes Matz (Justin) of Portland. Great-grandchildren include Adalie, Kylia, Zoie, and Leilani Himes of Lacy; Maddie and Geoffrey Himes of LaVerne; and Savannah Lamb of Medford. He joined the US Army Air Corps in September 1941, continued serving after it was renamed the US Army Air Forces (USAFF) in 1942, and completed his service in October, 1945. Douglas' parents met in Oregon when his father Earl traveled from Ohio to visit his first cousin Merle Minear, who had settled in the Griffin Creek area of Medford and married a local girl, Jessie Darby. Earl was then introduced to Jessie's sister, Alice. Eventually the two married and moved to Earl's dairy farm in Ohio. The theme of cousins marrying sisters was repeated when Douglas and his first cousin, Marvin Darby married two of the Mitchell sisters, of Medford, respectively, Faye and Shirley. When his parents separated in 1929, Douglas' mother returned to Oregon with him, his sister, and his brother. He attended school in Jacksonville, and eventually graduated from Medford High School in 1938. Douglas enlisted in the US Army in September of 1941, and was at training camp in Florida when news came that Pearl Harbor had been attacked. Initially aspiring to be a pilot in the Army's Air Corp, he discovered an aptitude for electronics and received training as a radioman on B-17's and other aircraft. He served throughout the Pacific, primarily based in Hawaii. Prior to the war, he had enrolled at the Multnomah School of the Bible in Portland. After the war he attended Southern Oregon College of Education (SOCE, now Southern Oregon University) in Ashland. Douglas married Faye Mitchell Lamb on June 27, 1945, the 25th anniversary of her parents. They were happily married until her death in December, 2004. He spent his career as a transmission man with Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Company in Medford, Oregon from 1952 until his retirement in 1983. After retiring, he assisted Faye in running Catch the Wind kite shops on the Oregon Coast in Florence, Newport, and Seaside for their son Stephen. After the passing of Faye, he moved from Medford to Portland, living at Avamere at Bethany to be close to his daughter and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Oregon Telephone Pioneers and various Baptist Churches, last attending Village Baptist in Portland. A dedicated lover of kites and kite flying, he was also a member of both the Oregon Kitefliers Association and the American Kitefliers Association. The memorial service will be Thursday, April 9 at 1pm, Perl Funeral Home, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd, Medford, OR. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
