The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Ann Aiken to a Medford courtroom packed with victims and their parents. 1:30 p.m.: A psychiatrist for the defense testified this afternoon that Jeffrey Bettman doesn't have a personality disorder and that there would be "close to zero" chance of him reoffending if he were released after a minimum sentence of 15 years. 1:10 p.m. : U.S. District Judge Ann Aiken told the victims who spoke today during Jeffrey Bettman's sentencing that they are courageous and to leave the court hopeful for their futures. "I could see the lack, frankly, of life in your eyes," Aiken told the girls, referring to their testimony. "Get it back." There's standing room only at the sentencing of Bettman in federal court in Medford. 12:25 p.m.: Fourteen victims of gymnastics coach Jeffrey Scott Bettman and their parents are imploring a federal judge today to impose the maximum sentence of 25 years for Bettman's decades of secretly videotaping the female athletes undressing. The victims told U.S. District Judge Ann Aiken in federal court in Medford that Bettman used gymnastics as his "personal playground" to secretly film pornographic images of girls he coached and that his abuse has shattered their lives. The victims said Bettman robbed them of their innocence and trust and that he would victimize more girls if he got out of federal prison alive. Bettman pleaded guilty to 13 child pornography-related charges in January after investigators discovered he'd been secretly videotaping underage girls changing their clothes for almost two decades in both Oregon and California. Investigators found 49 victims in the two states, all minors and some as young as age 8, court documents state. ‏Read more from the courtroom on Twitter: @MTwriterFreeman .
