Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend September 5, 2005 Man drowns in Rogue River A California man drowned in the Rogue River Sunday near Galice. Dennis Rodriguez, 57, drowned in the Upper Galice Chutes after his inflatable raft capsized and he was thrown into the water, Josephine County Sheriff Dave Daniel said in a press release. Daniel did not have Rodriguez’s California address. Daniel said Rodriguez and his son, whose name was not available, were in inflatable "Tahiti" rafts that are commonly used along that section of the river. The father’s boat flipped and he fell into the water. Daniel said Rodriguez was wearing a flotation device, but it was not properly secured and came off over his head. Other rafters saw him struggling and went to his aid. They pulled him to shore and started CPR, then moved him to the Galice boat ramp, where CPR was continued until an ambulance arrived. He was transported to Three Rivers Community Hospital, where he died.
