SYA Since You Asked: Fire marshal, ODF splitting Stouts fire duties Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Aug. 4, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted Aug. 4, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News I've been closely following media coverage of the Stouts fire east of Canyonville and have seem numerous officials from the Douglas Forest Protective Association, Oregon State Fire Marshal's Office and the Oregon Department of Forestry giving authoritative comments on the situation. Just who, exactly, is in charge up there? — A reader Well, dear reader, the answer is more or less "all of the above." The lands the Stouts fire is burning on fall under the year-round fire protection of the Douglas Forest Protective Association, whose management responsibilities encompass more than 1.6 million acres. When the fire seemingly exploded overnight last Thursday, the Oregon Department of Forestry activated Oregon Incident Management Team 1 to take command of the wildland firefighting efforts. The fire marshal's office, in turn, has taken responsibility for protecting residential and commercial structures around the fire. The Incident Information System webste ( http://inciweb.nwcg.gov ), which keeps track of wildfires throughout the West and beyond, showed the Stouts fire at 15,200 acres as of Monday afternoon, with 1,224 personnel fighting the blaze east of Canyonville.
