GRADS WILL PULL WEEDS AS PRANK PENALTY The entire male portion of the graduating class of the Medford high school, "nune provecti ubi ancora accimus," as their class motto states, will start life in that un-Latin occupation of pulling and cutting weeds. Sixteen of them appeared this morning before Police Judge Gay, and were sentenced to manual labor as punishment for tearing down and hiding business signs on a tour of the business district Monday night. It was explained to the court that this episode was only a "high school joke." The court held that the damage to property was "no joke." The sentence of the court was that the boys should before next Monday clean and pull weeds in the parking in front of some other boy's home. Harold Grey, the youngest member of the class, was named to see that the work was done. It was further provided that if any one balked at his task he would again be haled before the court and assigned to cleaning up the city park after the Memorial Day celebration. The boys will hold a meeting this evening to allot work. STANDARD OIL'S NEW STEEL BARREL "The world-wide fame of the old Standard Oil five-gallon kerosene can, which has long been a familiar sight in practically every section of the globe, seems in a fair way to be duplicated by a fifteen-gallon steel barrel which the Standard Oil company (California) recently adopted for the convenience of its Zerolene customers," said Colonel E.H. Merrill, manager lubricating oil department for the oil company yesterday. "Salesmen's reports indicate that these barrels are going like the proverbial hotcakes. Of course, they will not be put to the various uses that fall to the lot of the coal oil can, because this barrel is made to be refilled, but from present indication these barrels will so have made their way to even the most remote points where Zerolene is used."
