Torres finishes second in Silver Gloves tourney OLATHE, Kan. -- A 3-2 decision denied Medford's Javier Torres a second Silver Gloves national championship Saturday night. Torres went three rounds with Neves Portillo of Amarillo, Texas, in the title bout of the 12-13-year-old, 132-pound division. "We threw three punches to every one for him," said an exasperated Jim Pedrojetti, Torres' trainer at the Medford-based Bulldog Boxing Club. "I just couldn't believe the decision. ... The whole crowd booed; they couldn't believe it." Torres, who won a Silver Gloves title in 2000 and a Ringside championship in 2001, falls to 32-7 for his career. "I just tell him to go back and work harder, so next time it won't come down to a decision," Pedrojetti said.
