October 24. 2014 11:32AM Documentary film celebrates return of salmon to McCloud River A documentary film on the return of salmon to a Northern California river with the help of aboriginal tribes in New Zealand will be shown at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Ashland Community Center, 59 Winburn Way, Ashland. "Dancing Salmon Home" tells the story of how members of the Winnemem Wintu tribe, based near Mount Shasta, traveled to New Zealand to meet with the Maori people of the region, who helped them reintroduce salmon to the McCloud River. Chief Caleen Sisk of the Winnemem Wintu tribe and documentary filmmaker Will Doolittle will be on hand to speak and answer questions. Cost for the event, which includes a light dinner, is $15-25 on a sliding scale. Tickets are available by calling 541-622-5358 or emailing [email protected].
