Buncom Day festivities planned for Saturday Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted May. 23, 2016 at 1:31 PM Posted May. 23, 2016 at 1:31 PM » Social News Buncom, Southern Oregon’s last standing ghost town, will be celebrated from 10 a.m to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 28, in the annual “Buncom Day” festivities. There will be a parade at noon, led by the one-man band, Bob O’Luney, along with a “chicken splat contest,” live music, face painting, books, plants, a country store, children’s activities, and exhibits about everything from local trails to fire safety and lace making. A Hawaiian-style lunch will be available, prepared by Sunrise Café owner Ed Chun and assisted by students from the Teen Music Theater of Oregon. Proceeds from the event help keep the historic buildings in a state of what organizers describe as “arrested decay.” Admission is free. To get there, follow Highway 238 to Ruch, turn south at Ruch on Upper Applegate Road, travel three miles, turn left on Little Applegate and go another three miles to Buncom at the intersection with Sterling Creek Road.
