It takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 4, in the Floral Building at the Josephine County Fairgrounds in Grants Pass. Admission is free. This year's rose festival takes the place of more formal judged events held in the past. "It's more about roses to appreciate rather than roses to exhibit for judging," says festival chair Ingrid Wapelhorst. In addition to a wide array of rose- and garden-related displays and information, the festival will include vendors offering roses, companion plants, garden crafts and specialty fertilizers for sale, a soil testing expert, hourly presentations and an arrangement workshop. Cut roses and rose books also will be for sale. And raffles will be held throughout the day. American Rose Society consulting Rosarians will be on hand to help with rose questions and to share information about the best ways to grow healthy roses in the Rogue Valley. Cut roses and rose arrangements also will be on display, and the public is encouraged to share cut roses from their own gardens to display as well. Those with roses to display should bring them to the fairgrounds between 9 and 10 a.m. Include the rose name or variety, if possible. Visitors will be given a ballot to vote on their favorite roses.
