Game left fans hanging in balance Eighteen seconds can be an eternity in the National Basketball Association. For local fans watching the end of Sunday�s game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Indianapolis Pacers on KOBI television, however, the whole thing zipped by in an instant. Moments after Travis Best gave Indiana a one-point lead, a timeout was called. When the NBC network went away to a commercial break near the top of the 5 o�clock hour, it never returned. Instead, local viewers were switched to Bob Vila�s "Home Again." "It appears to be a network error," said KOBI news director Dave Sebastian. Production manager Harry Young was on the job at the time, checking through all the possible satellites to no avail. "They just cut us out," Sebastian said. "Each station is switched individually by the network. Apparently, they didn�t fix our switch time." Although the station�s main number was busy for some time after the game disappeared, Sebastian said he was unaware of any deluge of calls. KOBI was working with a skeleton crew Monday because of the President�s Day holiday. "We need to get everyone together (today) and see what happened," Sebastian said. " The Pacers� 110-109 lead held up as Indiana rallied from a 14-point deficit.
